Extracurricular Activities

The HOL organises regular events focusing on solidarity, environmental protection and social issues. Students play a pivotal role in the planning and implementation of these activities and these include visits to art exhibitions, sports festivals and excursions.

The annual highlight is the school festival at the end of the course, at which not only the parents, but also the local press and important representatives of public life are in attendance and they lend support and gravitas to the project through positive speeches. This is an integral part of the public relations work which also defends the school and its staff against potential intrusion by radical-conservative forces.

Cultural and other activities

The school administration does its best, within its limited financial means, to have the children participate in various cultural activities.

The school lays special emphasis on environmental awareness. For example, on one of the Annual Day Functions the children performed a small skit entitled “Little Green Trees” on the destructive effects of pollution. The children made an appeal to the CDA (Capital Development Authority) for garbage bins to be placed in their village. The school, on two occasions has also celebrated Earth Day and intends to continue doing so. The school also participates, whenever they take place, in the “Art for Change” national exhibitions, which are art competitions with different social and cultural themes.
